Australia Cup 2024 Preliminary Rounds: State of Play

As the Round of 32 qualifications begin to take shape, we look at the Preliminary Round state of play across each footballing federation.

Australian Capital Territory

Capital Football’s battle for their Australia Cup Round of 32 place will take place this Saturday, as O'Connor Knights SC take on with Monaro Panthers FC for a spot in the competition.

Monaro Panthers secured their place in Preliminary Round Seven with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Tuggeranong United FC, with a 7-1 win over West Canberra Wanderers FC and a 3-2 triumph over Canberra Croatia FC being the other matches that saw them progress through to the final stage of qualifying.

O’Connor Knights, meanwhile, have conceded just one goal in the Capital Football Preliminary Rounds so far, with wins by the scores of 2-0, 6-0 and 3-1 seeing them through to this exciting fixture.

The match will be available live on BarTV.

Northern Territory

Football Northern Territory’s lone Australia Cup Round of 32 has been decided, with Darwin Hearts FC prevailing over Darwin Olympic SC in Preliminary Round Seven.

A 4-2 victory over Verdi Football Club took the Hearts into the final, where their 3-1 scoreline secured a place in the prestigious competition for the first time in their history.

New South Wales

New South Wales’ four Round of 32 entrants have been decided after the Preliminary Round Seven fixtures concluded earlier this week.

A 5-1 win over Inter Lions saw Blacktown City FC become the first New South Wales club to qualify, before APIA Leichhardt made the cut following a 2-1 victory over the Marconi Stallions.

On Wednesday night, Rockdale Illinden FC prevailed over association side Phoenix FC 9-1, whilst NWS Spirit FC secured their third Round of 32 appearance after beating Sydney United 58.

Queensland

Football Queensland’s remaining clubs all find themselves one match off qualifying for the Australia Cup Round of 32.

Lions FC will take on Surfers Paradise Apollo next Tuesday, before Brisbane City and Moreton City Excelsior host Eastern Suburbs and Gold Coast United respectively on Wednesday night.

To finalise Queensland’s 2024 entrants, Regional Men's side Southside Comets FC will take on Olympic FC on Saturday, June 15th.

All Preliminary Round Seven matches will be available on Football Queensland's Facebook and Youtube, and the Australia Cup Facebook and Football Australia YouTube

South Australia

Modbury Jets SC have secured their spot in the Round of 32 with a 1-0 victory over Adelaide Olympic on Wednesday.

South Australia’s other qualifier will be decided next Wednesday, as Campbelltown City take on the Adelaide Comets for the remaining Australia Cup knockout stage place.

The match will be available to watch on Football SA's Facebook, Football SA's YouTube channel and the Australia Cup Facebook page

Tasmania

Kingsborough Lions United FC and Glenorchy Knights FC will go head-to-head on Monday afternoon to decide Tasmania’s Australia Cup Round of 32 representative.

The Lions qualified for Round Seven thanks to a 2-1 victory over Launceston City FC, which came after a 7-0 win over Launceston United SC.

Glenorchy Knights, on the other hand, secured their place with a 5-0 win over Taroona FC and a 7-0 victory over South East United FC.

The Knights are currently placed second in the NPL Tasmania competition, while the Lions are just five points behind in fourth spot.

Glenorchy are undefeated with five victories and four draws to their name, and also boast the best attack and strongest defence in the competition, having scored 32 and conceded just seven in nine games this season.

The Lions, however, have the second-best attack in the division, and with a place in the Round of 32 up for grabs, it could be the finest of margins that decide this clash.

The match will be available live on the Football Tasmania YouTube and Football Australia YouTube channel.

Western Australia

Western Australia’s two Preliminary Round Seven matches will take place next Wednesday night.

Sorrento FC will come up against Perth RedStar FC, while Olympic Kingsway SC will take on Perth Soccer Club.

Sorrento FC is the only remaining club that isn’t in the top division of Western Australia - they currently operate in the State League One, where they are top.

Perth RedStar FC are third in the NPL WA competition, while Olympic Kingsway are leading it, with their opponents Perth Soccer Club down in 10th position.

Both matches will be available on the Football West YouTube, Football West Facebook and the Australia Cup Facebook page.

Northern New South Wales
