From there, two strong victories over Westvale Olympic FC and Moreland City FC propelled them into Preliminary Round Seven, where they defeated Avondale FC in a come-from-behind win thanks to a brace from Joe Guest and a late goal from Alex Salmon.
Oakleigh Cannons, making their third successive appearance in the Australia Cup Finals, will be looking for another fairytale run like 2022, but will need to get past a strong Sydney outfit in the Round of 32 to begin their 2024 journey.
