Rockdale Ilinden went through a varied qualifying campaign, beginning with a penalty shootout victory, before ending with a 9-1 thrashing of Eastern Suburbs Football Association side Phoenix FC.
Their Preliminary Round Four clash against Manly United was a highly dramatic encounter, with a stoppage-time penalty from striker, talisman and captain Alec Urosevski preventing Rockdale from going out at the first stage before a 4-2 win on penalties saw them through to a clash against Hakoah Sydney City.
After facing Hakoah, they then defeated fellow NPL Men’s NSW side Wollongong Wolves thanks to goals from Urosevski and Lochlan Constable, aided by a red card in the fifth minute to the Wolves, before prevailing 9-1 in Preliminary Round Seven.
