On this day: Victory secure second Australia Cup

Melbourne Victory won the Australia Cup for second time after defeating Central Coast Mariners 2-1 at AAMI Park on this day, February, 5 2022.

Jason Davidson broke the deadlock in the 70th minute with a sublime free-kick which crashed into the top corner.

Chris Ikonomidis then doubled Victory's advantage with a brilliant control and finish from Francesco Margiotta's diagonal ball. His stunning half-volley flew into the bottom corner in the 95th minute.

But there was still time for the Mariners to grab one back via Oliver Bozanic's well-taken goal, however it was inconsequential as Tony Popovic's side registered a memorable triumph in front of more than 15,000 fans.

Following the match, Melbourne's Jake Brimmer and Mariners defender Kye Rowles were both awarded the Mark Viduka Medal, marking the first time the honour was shared in the tournament's history.
