The Western Sydney Wanderers host Melbourne Victory in the first game of the Hahn Australia Cup Round of 16.
The Wanderers defeated ACT side Tigers FC 2-0 in the Round of 32 to reach this stage. They were eliminated in the Round of 16 last year, losing to eventual finalists Heidelberg, and will hope to go better this time around against fellow A-League Men opposition.
Western Sydney have never lifted a Hahn Australia Cup trophy and given their status as one of the biggest clubs in the country, that is something they will want to change as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Melbourne Victory headed down to Tasmania in the Round of 32 and now travel to Sydney for this early season test. It will be another look at how Giovanni Savarese’s team will play football this season.
Victory are two-time winners of the Cup, in 2015 and 2021, and are looking for their third this time around.
The winner of this tie will take on either APIA Leichhardt or Sydney United 58, both in the NPL NSW, in the quarter-finals.
