Westfield FFA Cup to launch ambitious Sydney's treble tilt

Sydney FC defender Sebastian Ryall is targeting victory in the Westfield FFA Cup Final on Tuesday as the first step to an unprecedented treble.

No team has ever won the competition in the same season as the Premiers’ Plate and Hyundai A-League Grand Final.

The Sky Blues came close to the hat-trick last term, but defeat to Melbourne City in the Cup decider ultimately cost them a slice of history.

“We’re desperate to win,” Ryall said.

“We’ve got goals this year to win every trophy and this is the first opportunity to win the first one, so it’s the first step of our season in that regard.

“It’s actually a trophy that I haven’t won, I’ve won the league and Grand Final. I’m looking forward to [adding the FFA Cup].”

Team-mate Josh Brillante has played every minute of his side’s run to the Final and is keen to make amends for falling short in 2016.

Josh Brillante
Josh Brillante has been an important figure in Sydney's campaign.

“Last year we just missed out, we won all the other trophies, so from that perspective it was a little bit disappointing,” Brillante said.

“But it’s the first trophy up for grabs this year and we’re looking to take it home with us.

“It’s early on in the season, so to get that trophy straight away and go into the next few games after that with the confidence will be a huge help to how we go and continue on for the rest of the season.”

And with Tuesday’s Final against Adelaide United to be played at Allianz Stadium, the midfielder believes home ground advantage provides an edge over the Reds.

“Having all the fans behind us is like having an extra player out on the field,” Brillante said.

“Having the home ground will be massive and we’re looking to have has many people to come out to support us as possible.”

Sydney fans
Brillante believes the club's fans can make the difference.
