There have been 22 upsets known as 'Cupsets' since the 2014 edition of the Hahn Australia Cup where a local Member Federation team defeated an Isuzu UTE A-League outfit.
Adelaide City recorded the first Cupset after a 1-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers at Marden Sports Complex.
A record four Cupsets occurred in the 2024 iteration of the competition, something we have never seen before.
In 2025 there have been five Cupsets so far and a record for a single campaign. Olympic Kingsway, who fought back three times to down 10-man Melbourne Victory 4-3 after extra-time in the Hahn Australia Cup 2025 Round of 32, and in doing so, became the first Western Australian National Premier League side to record a Cupset.
The second, occurred a day later as APIA Leichhardt beat a youthful Melbourne City outfit 2-0 to become the first Member Federation to have defeated three A-League teams.
The third, saw a rotated Heidelberg United outfit convincingly defeat Western Sydney Wanderers 3-0 - the largest margin for a 'Cupset'. The Bergers also joined APIA in recording three 'Cupsets' after completing the feat for the second year in a row.
The fourth came a week later by Heidelberg United again, as they broke their own previous record to inflict the heaviest defeat on an A-League side with a resounding 4-0 win over Wellington Phoenix. They also became the first side to register four 'Cupsets'.
The team responsible for the fifth cupset was - you guessed it - Heidelberg - who recorded a third consecutive win over an A-Leagues side without conceding a goal - dispatching reigning premiers Auckland FC 2-0 in the Semi Final.
